Flowers bisexual (perfect), actinomorphic.
Calyx modified into an operculum; operculum conical or rostrate.
Stamens numerous, in several whorls; anthers dithecal.

Fruit ovoid; subglobose; or urceolate; 5–14 mm long; 6–14 mm wide; valves 5–6; included.
Seeds numerous.
