Description

Key Characters:

Growth Form: Plants slender, 3–12 dm tall.

Stems: Caulescent, branched, glabrous.

Roots: Slender fascicled.

Leaves: Leaves compound (ternate). Alternate. Basal and cauline leaves ternately compound, deltate, 2-10 cm wide, the leaflets obovate to rhombic-obovate. Upper cauline leaves reduced, the leaflets narrow. Apex obtuse to acuminate. Base cuneate. Margins doubly serrate, the teeth mucronate. Petioles sheathing; usually longer than blades, 7–20 cm long. Stipules absent.

Flowers: Flowers in loose, irregularly compound umbels. rays 2–7, slender, stiffly ascending, 1–6 cm long .pedicels 2–10, ascending, 2–35 mm long. Flowers bisexual (perfect). Calyx teeth absent or minute. Corolla of 5 petals; petals white, obovate, with a narrower inflexed apex. Stamens 5, inserted on an epigynous disk. Ovary inferior, 2-celled; ovules 1 per cells, anatropous; styles 2, usually swollen at base into a stylopodium. Styles erect or reflexed, the stylopodium slender-conical; carpophore 2–parted to base.

Fruit: Fruit linear to ovoid–oblong; 3.5–8 mm long; 1–3 mm wide; compressed laterally; beaked; glabrous; ribs filiform; conspicuous; vittae 1–4 in the intervals; 2 on the commissure; mericarps readily separating. Seeds 1 per mericarp; embryo small; endosperm cartilaginous. seed face plane.
