Description

Key Characters:

Growth Form: Plants terrestrial, perennial.

Stems: Stems erect or decumbent, reddish green in age, branched, 20–40 cm.

Roots:

Leaves: Leaves simple. Opposite. Blades obovate to broadly elliptic, 20–50 mm. Apex obtuse or emarginate. Margins entire. Sessile. Stipules absent.

Flowers: Flowers in inflorescences lax, flowers 2 per node. pedicels 3–8 mm. Flowers bisexual (perfect), minute, axillary, erect, 4-merous. Calyx of 4 sepals; sepals broadly triangular, 1–2 mm, apex acute. Corolla of 4 petals; petals narrowly triangular, 3–4 mm. Stamens 4; anthers dithecal, opening by longitudinal slits. Ovary superior.

Fruit: Follicles erect; 12–20–seeded; obliquely lanceoloid; old follicles not seen. Seeds ellipsoid; 0.3–0.4 mm; rarely formed; other characters not known.

Ploidy:

Habitat: Disturbed areas.

Elevation Range: 0–50 m.
